Employee Assistance Program F.A.Q.

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a voluntary, work-based and employer-sponsored program that offers free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, and follow-up services to employees with personal or work-related problems. EAP counselors also work with a company’s managers and supervisors providing consultation services for employee and organizational needs. We also help organizations cope with trauma or other emergency response situations in the workplace.
EAP helps with any personal or work-related issues that can affect your personal happiness, family life, or work performance. We help you cope with problems like stress and financial concerns, drugs or alcohol abuse, and parenting difficulties. We offer short-term counseling for a wide variety of personal and work-related problems, but will also help you find additional resources and provide referrals that are most helpful and cost-effective to you if you need long-term assistance.
No. The names of employees who use our services are not provided to the employer. We cannot speak with the employer unless we have written authorization from the employee.
The Employee Assistance Program is funded by your employer, so there is no cost to the employee to use our services. If, however, the employee requires additional outside professional treatment, the employee’s health benefits or private insurance, or the employee themselves, must cover these services. An EAP counselor will help find the best and most cost-effective options for your individual needs.
In most cases, all employees and their dependent family members can use our services.
In most cases your employer offers up to three sessions per situation. When you call to make an appointment we can let you know how many EAP sessions you are provided under your employer’s plan.
